Masters started out as an assemblage of twelve rides - exquisite and laboriously hand-manufactured cymbals made of CuSn20 bronze to achieve superior sound ideals in various musical genres.
Masters Mellow Ride "Blue Bird"
Soft, warm, sweet, airy.
Medium range, fairly complex mix.
Fine, buttery feel. Silky, silvery ping over warm, mellow wash.
Musical, gracious bell.
Easily transcends Jazz and finds broad musical application wherever refined articulation and cultured style are required.
"This medium-light Masters series ride was designed with French jazz drummer Andre Ceccarelli and is meant for subtler playing that lives mostly in the lower end of the dynamic spectrum. It has a long, warm, and airy sustain, a smooth and clean stick attack, and a deep and integrated bell tone. It's hammered extensively to bring out more complexity without losing clarity. This is a silky, smooth ride with a soft and buttery feel, a mellow and pleasant sustain, and a rich bell. Fast, delicate ride patterns sparkled with a musical voice, and the Blue Bird can be pushed a bit harder to get a wider texture without the sound becoming overwhelmed with excessive wash. The Blue Bird ride also doubled well as a big crash in louder backbeat-oriented applications where I needed a complex vintage-type tone that wouldn't choke out when hit with more aggressive strokes." - Michael Dawson
"French jazz drummer Andre Ceccarelli's 20" B20 alloy Masters Series Mellow 'Blue Bird' ride has the subtle and timeless look of a vintage Turkish, heavily- beaten jazz ride with wide blade lathing. This cymbal is also part of the Artist Inspiration series and Ceccarelli personally supplied the Blue Bird graphic label. The B20 alloy Blue Bird ride which has the unmistakable buttery 'tahh' of a vintage jazz ride, with a deeper and more mellow wash. But this is bolstered by a lively, brighter edge so that the resulting ride is not trashy, but has a modern aspect too - a cool combination of classic and contemporary. The bell arises out of the cymbal physically and sonically - it is connected and has a soft tinkling quality. In every way this is a sensitive and musical cymbal, appropriate for all situations, live and recording - not just jazz - where a controlled, singing, sweet and silvery tone is sought." - Geoff Nicholls
