"If the AAX Omni cymbals already convinced with a very dark and warm basic tone, the HHX Omni cymbals sound a little deeper and more earthy. Especially the stick on the profile in the ride function creates an earthy, woody sound in 22" models and offers a few very soft, slightly shimmering overtones. Nevertheless, there is a good definition of the embroidery, and particularly fast figures which can be articulated super cleanly on the unlathed parts of the profile. If you go over to the lathed edge area, there is also a fine, shimmering noise and the attack is no longer quite as dry. But here it definitely needs a play culture, because a somewhat too hearty accent already reveals slight crashes. This sound behavior naturally also moves both cymbals a bit in the "jazzy" direction." - Ralf Mikolajczak
"AAX Omni is a bright cymbal, and so I felt the need to have a version of that which caters more to my natural preference. However, because this is such a complex cymbal to produce, we began the R&D process with the AAX Omni, and once we had perfected that, applied the knowledge to the more intricate HHX hammered version. This cymbal really embodies the vision I had all along for a dark Omni. "I ended up using the 22-inch HHX alongside my regular 22-inch cymbal; between the two, I felt I had an enormous amount of sonic options, which isn't always the case when using two cymbals of the same size. For me, the 22-inch HHX Omni excelled in all areas I needed it to. It had a warm, dark, washy feel but could also cut through the band when called upon. Even as a crash, it had a great fast attack that subsided quickly with no displeasing overtones. A cymbal that covers the entire spectrum like that shouldn't be taken for granted. "The 22" HHX Omni is goes beyond being a complete 3-tool ride, and arguably features 4 distinct tools, all of which are best-in-class quality: 1. Riding surface: dry, articulate unfinished band offers tremendous focus and control 2. Bell: a sharp, clear, biting bell without venturing into being abrasive - toes the line perfectly 3. Crashable edge: this is the most crashable ride I've ever played. It is the equal or superior to any large crash on the market. Unbelievably thin and responsive, this aspect of the voice is the standout raison-d'etre of this instrument. Due to this astounding sensitivity, this cymbal - despite its size - can truly be said to be an uncompromising crash-ride that can do it all, and stand alone as the only cymbal in a limited setup 4. Secondary riding surface: a complete contrast to the dry, focused primary riding surface, the inner half of the outer lathed band provides a wet, smoky character as a secondary riding voice, and therefore a fourth tool Tremendous instrument. Due to the incredible pinpoint thin edge, not a good choice for heavy hitters, but an absolute dream for a player seeking a versatile Swiss Army Knife of a ride that sounds fantastic in each regard." - Cody
