Reviews
"This cymbal produces a beautifully low-pitched "hum" when riding on it. Even though it's pretty thin in weight, it still projects plenty of stick definition. The dark tone and thin weight combine together to produce a relatively low volume. The thin weight also makes it very crashable. I love using this cymbal at church, because its low frequency range prevents it from overbearing other instruments in the mix. The hammering gives it a trashy feel without sounding as trashy as something you might find in the Zildjian K Constantinople series like the Renaissance or Overhammered Ride." - Braden Cox
"22" Ride sounds much deeper in the fundamental tone and even darker in the dry overtones. You also encounter the very clear and extremely earthy sustain, paired with the rather "woody" stick attack." - Ralf Mikolajczak
"Istanbul Agop says that it might take drummers some time to figure out exactly how to caress the SE cymbals in order to achieve a specific desired sound. This may be true in some cases; they certainly had hidden qualities waiting to be discovered. But overall, I was taken by how well the cymbals' bright overtones walked hand-in-hand with an undercurrent of heavy, ancient-sounding "gonginess." I played the SE Jazz rides in settings where the music was a mix of classical, jazz, rock, and world. I was impressed by how they neither overpowered nor fell into the background of the music. I took the 22" ride to a recording session, and found its clarity, heft, and crispness right on the mark. My miking setup included one mic' right above the ride. In playbacks and on the eventual CD tracks, even my slightest ride strokes cut through, with highlights and "low-lights" (sonic depths) registering equally clear in the mix. During the session I switched back and forth between wood-tip sticks, brushes, and rods. Each produced a very different effect, though the common threads of clarity and sonic layering seemed to bond each performance." - Will Romano
