"The medium-weight 15" Xist hi-hats provided a pleasant middle ground. They were bright and quick while also having a big, broad wash. They fared equally well with a big band and a heavier rock band. As an experiment, I added small strips of tape on opposite edges of the top cymbal to dry out the sound, and a bit of the brightness was replaced by some nice grittiness.
