Reviews
"The sound from the 16" is quite bright when struck by either hand or stick. The makeup of the cymbal is light to allow it to respond to hand attacks, which also makes it a bit open to dents. All in all the sound is great. There is a bit of a delayed flare when striking it lightly with your fingers, almost like a tam-tam (gong). It takes a quick moment for the sound to flare (not an immediate crash - but more of a quick flare). When struck hard with the hand - you get a quick and responsive crash. When played with sticks, there are some overtones due to the thin nature of this cymbal, so stay near the bell with your sticks and it sounds fine. Brushes, blasticks and birch tala-wands sound great - as do mallets for crescendos." - Kevin Mc.
"AAX El Sabor Picante hand crashes sport three playing areas. The heavy, raw bell and center area are suitable for clave stickings and ride patterns respectively, and the lathed, extra thin bow is hand crashable. It's quite a concept, and takes expert cymbalsmithery to take such a hefty slice of metal down to paper thin at the outer edge. Attacking the central band with sticks brings out very different characteristics. The unlathed shoulder is very dry and gives excellent stick definitionovera smouldering wash and the bell is strident and penetrating - perfect for clanging out fiery patterns. The 16" Picante is a little higher in pitch across all the surfaces and so doesn't quite have the same authority as its bigger brother, but is still an intriguing and very convincing cymbal." - Team
"I am a percussionist, I play cajon, conga, bongos and others. This cymbal is like having three cymbals in one, outside a crash, a very nice ride in the middle and in the inner part a bell. It is very versatile." - Germin
"Great cymbal for use with cajon - really turns the cajon into a mini drum kit (especially when used with a Heck Stick and bass pedal). Cymbal has been designed for use with the hand, and responds wonderfully with the slightest glance to the edge. You also achieve good ride and bell sounds - experiment with different attacks (single finger like a drum stick, multiple fingers in a claw style, fingernails etc). Super explosive, loads of sustain." - Wendy Sherman
