Reviews
"The Clap Stack actually sounds like a trashy handclap sample from the (drum) computer. In order to achieve the ideal sound, you should not tighten it too tightly and catch it loosely with the shoulder of the stick when you hit it so that you hit all three cymbals if possible. Then there is a somewhat diffuse, briefly rustling attack paired with an extremely short, slightly distorted noise component with slightly metallic hissing in the background. It is worth experimenting with the mounting pressure strength here. If you set the three cymbals quite loosely, the sound will be a bit bigger without actually becoming longer." - Ralf Mikolajczak
"The Clap Stack is one of Istanbul Agop’s most popular cymbals. I’ve had the privilege of playing this cymbal on a few occasions, and I’ve never heard a more authentic clapping sound from any other stack that I’ve played. The idea behind this cymbal is that it makes the same sound as the handclap on an 808 drum machine. Using it stops you from needing to use electronics to get the same sound. It works excellently, and it adds fantastic depth to your cymbal setup." - Brett Clur
"I was particularly excited about the Clap Stack, because firstly I'm a fan of short sounds that can be used as a hi-hat substitute, and secondly stacked cymbals always invite you to experiment further. First of all, it should be noted that this set is also rather quiet, at least when used as intended by Istanbul Agop. Played individually, the three stack cymbals all sound a bit undefined, trashy and short, but it gets exciting when you hang them on a stand. Then the set invites you to new patterns that work well in the many varieties of hip-hop, R&B and electronic. They actually sound like a mixture of hi-hat and analog clap sound, by tightening the cymbal screw to different degrees, subtle but effective changes in tonality and sustain are possible. I have not included my further experiments, which would placing the individual stack cymbals on other cymbals and drums. In any case, many more inspiring tones are possible here." - Max Gebhardt
